In all the excitement of planning for your wedding, don't forget to take care of the business details by finding out Atlanta marriage license requirements. A marriage ceremony can't take place unless a valid marriage license has been issued and you won't be able to apply for it after the ceremony.
Details may vary by county, so it is best to check with your local county Register of Deeds office. A selection of local counties with their contact information is listed below. The bride and groom must each be 18 years of age to apply for a Georgia marriage license without parental consent. Persons as young as 16 may apply for a license if accompanied by both parents and have given written consent.
Non-residents of Georgia must apply for a license in the county where the marriage is to be performed. Georgia residents may apply in any county. As of July 31, 2003 no blood test is required to apply for an Atlanta marriage license. Applications for the marriage license must be made in person at the county's probate court.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
- The bride and groom applicants must present two valid forms of identification (birth certificate, driver's license, U. S. passport, Armed Forces ID card, Resident Alien ID Card) and fill out a brief form.
- Applicants, who have been divorced within the previous six months, must present a copy of the divorce decree.
- The licensing fee ranges from $26-$34, and payment methods vary. A Georgia marriage license is issued at the time of application, and there is no waiting period before the marriage can take place.
